Backup data is automatically scanned by malware detection technology. Data systems that can be recovered include databases, virtual machine (VMs), files and folders, and operating systems (OSs). For object storage systems, administrators are able to set tier-based policies for backing up archive data.
Veeam offers backup for the following environments:
- Physical systems: including network-attached storage (NAS) deployments
- Cloud environments: including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, and Kubernetes
- Virtual environments: including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, and Red Hat
- SaaS deployments: including Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365
- Applications: including high-performance workloads, like SAP HANA and Kubernetes
Veeam has three different product packages:
- Veeam Backup & Replication, Community Edition; free for up to 10 workloads

- Veeam Availability Suite
The Availability Suite offers monitoring, reporting, and analytics capabilities as well as intelligent diagnostics and remediation options. These features help companies that need to report regularly on backup processes to leadership. For enterprises that want more detailed analytics and recommendations for backup and recovery, Veeam offers an advanced plan. Veeam Cloud Backup Review 2023
Veeam also offers the Disaster Recovery Orchestrator as an add-on disaster recovery (DR) pack for the Backup & Replication product and Availability Suite. It includes fail-over orchestration for automating recovery processes, DR testing to predict possible outcomes of a recovery attempt, and automatically generated DR documentation. The DR add-on is suitable for companies that can afford the additional module and want automation and testing features in their disaster recovery solution.

Veeam use case
Thai insurance firm Dhipaya saw benefits from Veeam’s backup product after prioritizing a shift to digital insurance: many of its customers wanted to conduct online transactions. Dhipaya wanted to provide a strong data protection infrastructure, according to Surachai Viboonkitchod, director of the information system and network administrative department at Dhipaya.
“Data is at the heart of our business,” Surachai says. “We need to be confident in our data backup availability in case any of our data is damaged or lost. This is of utmost importance, because compromised data can cause disruptions to our business operations, which would lead to enormous loss. We need a solution that can safeguard our data and keep business operation risk at a minimum.
“After choosing Veeam to be our IT partner, we have been able to lay a framework to set a new strategy, and we were able to see clear results immediately. While we initially chose Veeam based on its reliability, Veeam has also been able to meet our requirements for product efficiency. The time we spend on IT work has decreased, and this has led to cost reduction, while our operational performance increased.”
For Dhipaya, backing up their data to AWS is a straightforward process.
“Veeam can integrate and perfectly back AWS data up. We don’t have to do much beyond simply enabling it,” Surachai says.
“Veeam also has the technology for monitoring work to reduce the burden on administrators that makes the team’s work easier, reduces the burden of data checking, and produces and stores reports for audit checking, which improves the company’s confidence in another way. … Veeam’s method of calculating costs is simple and covers all the work from the beginning.”
Dhipaya’s backup and recovery became 99% more effective after partnering with Veeam, including when backing up large volumes of data every couple of hours. The effectiveness of Dhipaya’s availability also increased 99% with recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) of 15 minutes or less.
