Sana from TWICE Discloses Her Plan to Run Away Before Debut
TWICE’s Sana Opens Up About Nearly Giving Up Her K-Pop Dream on ‘Whenever Possible’
In the latest episode of SBS’s variety show TWICE‘s Sana shares her emotional journey as she reveals a moment from her trainee days when she almost gave up on her aspirations of debuting in Korea. The episode aired on May 20 at 9 p.m. KST.
During the show, which has gained popularity by topping Tuesday night variety ratings with a 5.8% nationwide viewership, Sana reflects on her struggles after moving to Korea at just 17. "I used to think about sneaking out in the early hours," she recalled, contemplating a return to Japan. "I even wondered how to quietly wheel out my suitcase without making the front door creak."
Although she had plans to escape, they never materialized. "My passport was at the company," she chuckled, noting the unrealistic nature of her thoughts. Sana also joked that she considered running away with fellow member Momo, humorously suggesting that TWICE could have started with seven members instead of nine.
The episode features Sana and fellow member Jihyo, who bring luck to Seoul’s Geumho-dong neighborhood as "Gap Friends." Sana’s Osaka upbringing shines through as she displays her sense of humor, telling Yoo Yeon Seok that she used to react dramatically but has toned it down since moving to Korea.
In a lighthearted game segment, Sana’s spontaneous mention of "Yangnyeom gejang (marinated crab)" has since sparked laughter and could become a memorable moment among fans, akin to her earlier "cheese kimbap" incident. After the game, she admitted, "That was seriously nerve-racking," eliciting further laughs from the hosts.
