Right at midnight KST, the group shared a special clip on their official accounts, officially declaring July 22 as NewJeans Day. The short video featured the five members animated in a distinct Japanese anime style, creating a unique tribute to their journey so far.

Alongside this, the group’s YouTube channel started live streaming a variety of NewJeans content for fans to enjoy all day long. The lineup includes past music videos, live performances, behind-the-scenes making-of footage, bonus clips, and more—offering a full immersion into their work for the anniversary. This live stream is a great way for fans to revisit the group’s highlights and celebrate together.

However, the anniversary comes amid ongoing challenges for NewJeans. Despite their rapid rise and impact since debut, the group has been involved in a legal dispute with their company, ADOR. Less than two years after their debut, the members filed to end their exclusive contract, alleging mistreatment. ADOR responded by insisting the contract is still valid and has not been breached by any claims of mistreatment.

A court recently sided with ADOR, granting them an injunction to stop NewJeans from pursuing solo activities outside the company’s approval. Because of this legal battle, NewJeans hasn’t released any new music for over a year. Meanwhile, many of their previous endorsement deals have expired or shifted to other idols and groups who are currently active.

This complicated situation essentially puts NewJeans on pause, but their anniversary celebration shows both the group and their fans holding on to the memories and milestones that have defined their career so far.
