BTS’s V and Jungkook Unable to Settle Defamation Lawsuit with Sojang Operator

BigHit Music, along with BTS members V and Jungkook, faced a setback in their defamation lawsuit against the operator known as A of the YouTube channel Sojang. On July 21 KST, the 1st Mediation Division at Seoul Western District Court held a mediation hearing for the ongoing damages appeal, but no settlement was reached. This means the regular appeal trial will continue.

The legal battle began after A posted at least 23 videos on the now-deleted Sojang channel that targeted several celebrities and influencers with defamatory or insulting remarks. These videos led to both civil and criminal complaints being filed against A.

Back in March 2023, BigHit Music took legal action by filing a claim for 90 million KRW (about 65,000 USD) in damages. Then, on February 14 this year, the court ruled that A must pay:

  • 51 million KRW to BigHit Music
  • 10 million KRW to V
  • 15 million KRW to Jungkook
    plus additional interest.

Both BigHit Music and A appealed this decision, which is why the case remains active.

This ongoing lawsuit highlights the serious consequences defamatory content creators may face, especially when it involves high-profile figures like BTS members.
