Girl Group Star Acknowledges Dating Scandal With Fellow K-Pop Artist Ended Her Career

Cho Hyunyoung opened up about her past dating scandal with Clazziquai’s Alex on SBS’s Dolsing Fourmen. She revealed the relationship ended on good terms but admitted the controversy still affects her career.

Cho said the breakup happened years ago but keeps resurfacing because of fellow RAINBOW member Go Woori.

Cho Hyunyoung: My public relationship was so long ago that many people don’t even know about it anymore. But because of my unnie, it keeps getting dug back up. I really can’t stand it.

Go Woori hinted at the drama in a recent interview.

Go Woori: In an interview once, they asked how I got close with Cho Hyunyoung, so I just said, ‘Back then we all had fun together with that oppa, and that’s how we became close.’ That’s all.

It became clear the “oppa” is Alex, as Go Woori admitted she still messages him about his radio program.

Go Woori: I still keep in touch with him… [To the camera] I always listen to your radio program. Hwaiting!

Cho explained the timing of the breakup’s publicity hurt her career.

Cho Hyunyoung: At the time those dating rumors came out, my career was just starting to rise. I felt like my career collapsed because the news broke right when things were looking good for me. That part was tough, but as for him, we ended things on good terms.

Cho Hyunyoung and Alex made their relationship public in 2015 and broke up in 2017. Alex married in 2018 but was revealed to have been divorced since 2021 in a 2025 update.

Cho Hyunyoung: It was honestly a really good memory.

Go Woori: If they had broken up badly, we wouldn’t even be able to talk about it like this.
