TWICE Chaeyoung’s New Song Lyrics Spark Intense Speculation About Hidden Meaning

TWICE’s Chaeyoung is facing controversy over her new solo song “Girl” from her debut album Lil Fantasy Vol. 1.

The mostly English track has fans buzzing for one key reason: the lyrics. Lines like,
“You can come closer, little girl / Why do we live, spinning around and crashing into each other?”
and the chorus,
“I could be the one (Girl, I’m here) / You could be the one (Don’t be afraid)”
plus, “Forever we could be a secret,” have sparked intense speculation about an LGBTQ+ theme.

Fans quickly took to Twitter to call out the song’s “gay” vibes and possible WLW (women-loving-women) situationship storyline.

Other fans openly called the song a story of a romantic “situationship” between two women.

Chaeyoung co-wrote all the songs on the album. Her direct involvement has only added fuel to the fan theories about “Girl” having a WLW meaning.

In a TMRW magazine interview, Chaeyoung explained:

“This is a song for the girls that have a similar taste and style as me. It’s very calm and soothing, and the song is very guitar-driven. When I chose the theme of the song as girls, it was just quite natural that it would really go well with these guitar chords. Overall, this song and the lyrics just came out really naturally.”

She gave more context to Rolling Stone, calling “Girl”:

“an ode to all the shy girls like herself.”

“I 100% do think that the quiet girls are powerful girls with their thoughts and minds. I wanted to write a song that they can empathize with.”

Back in April 2024, Chaeyoung’s relationship with rapper Zion.T was confirmed publicly. The two were recently seen together on Jeju Island, showing they’re still going strong despite the age gap.

Chaeyoung hasn’t officially commented on the LGBTQ+ interpretations yet, but the fan reaction is clear and loud. The song is stirring debate across social media right now.
