Ji Chang Wook Opens Up About EXO D.O.’s Performance In “The Manipulated”

Ji Chang Wook opened up about working with EXO’s D.O. in their new Disney+ drama The Manipulated—and fans are buzzing over his update.

The controversy began at a recent café interview in Seoul on April 11th. Ji Chang Wook is the lead in The Manipulated, playing Tae Jung, a man wrongfully imprisoned for a crime orchestrated by D.O.’s character, Yo Han, the ultimate villain.

Ji Chang Wook said he was “thrilled” when he heard D.O. would play Yo Han.

But the catch? They had very few scenes together. They filmed separately, missing chances for face-to-face interaction. He called that “disappointing” but liked the final cut.

“I wanted to do many scenes with Kyung Soo. It’s quite unfortunate that we had so few scenes together and did many separate shoots… I was pleased when I watched the final cut.”

He praised D.O.’s unique charm playing a villain who balances innocence and madness.

“First of all, he plays a villain. Sometimes, his face reveals both innocence and madness. Seeing that expressed through Yo Han was interesting… From start to finish, the most important thing in this work was how scary Yo Han should appear when people look at him… Kyung Soo’s unique presence makes Yo Han mysterious and allows for a dramatic portrayal.”

Ji Chang Wook also talked about Tae Jung’s frustration facing Yo Han.

“Everything is infuriating, and it’s frustrating. It’s so aggravating — imagine if it were your own situation. And in front of that, he feels so powerless. He can’t do anything, and no one listens to him. More than anger, I think what was scary was the fear and helplessness I felt within myself.”
