The controversy began with Lee Jung Sub, a movie director, posting harsh criticism of Kim Soo Hyun on his personal social media. He called Kim Soo Hyun a “child sex offender” and shared related posts claiming those allegations. This sparked major backlash and legal action.

Soon after, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul investigated. On February 6, 2026 (KST), they found enough evidence to refer Lee Jung Sub to prosecutors for defamation charges. This came after Kim Soo Hyun’s fans filed complaints through a law firm.

This official referral signals strong suspicion but does not guarantee guilt. Still, it could have serious consequences for Lee Jung Sub.

The two first met during the 2017 film Real, but things turned sour when Lee Jung Sub suddenly quit the project mid-production.
