BTS V’s Military Enlistment Struggles Break Fans’ Hearts

BTS’ V opens up about the struggles of military service, revealing the hardest part was not being able to perform.

During BTS’s ongoing promotions for their new album Arirang and single “SWIM,” V shared a heartfelt story from his time in the military that has deeply moved fans.

The singer explained that while he enjoyed serving, the toughest challenge was missing the chance to perform on stage. V described it as “torture” to dream about performing but wake up to military life instead.

Fairy Jaehyung: “When you went to the military after that, were you anxious? Or did you think of it as time just for yourself?”
V: “I think I needed that time to become who I am today.”
Fairy Jaehyung: “Were you a bit anxious too?”
V: “Uh no! Because the only thing I was anxious about was wanting to be on stage but not being able to. Back then, I was like, ‘I really want to perform right now but I can’t in this situation.’ Because I’d be dreaming about performing on stage and then I’d open my eyes… and see guys wrestling over there… and these really sweaty guys in front of me ‘Sergeant Kim Taehyung…? You need to wake up.’ That was really torture. Other than that, I was fine. I just had a lot of fun hanging out with them!”
