BTS’s Jungkook Targeted by Major Crime Ring, Mastermind Captured and Brought to Korea

BTS’s Jungkook was targeted in a massive international cybercrime case, with authorities nabbing the alleged mastermind behind the scheme.

A Chinese man in his 30s, identified only as “A,” was extradited to Korea from Bangkok on May 13. He is accused of leading a global cybercrime syndicate that hacked into the personal information of wealthy individuals, including Jungkook and a major conglomerate chairman.

Between August 2023 and April 2025, the group stole sensitive data from government, private, and public sources. They then opened mobile phone accounts under victims’ names and accessed their bank and cryptocurrency accounts. The syndicate targeted 16 people, embezzling around ₩38 billion KRW (about $25.5 million USD).

Jungkook’s stolen assets included HYBE shares worth ₩8.4 billion KRW (about $5.63 million USD). His agency quickly froze the assets, preventing any financial loss.

This extradition follows the arrest and indictment of an accomplice, “B,” who was brought to Korea last August. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Cyber Investigation Division also apprehended two other ringleaders and 16 syndicate members operating domestically and overseas.

The accused was brought to Korea through cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the National Police Agency.
