Idol Actress Reveals Struggles With Appearance Pressure In Latest K-Drama
Red Velvet’s Yeri caught attention after revealing her awkward feelings about her new K-Drama role.
The controversy began on May 19, 2026 (KST), when Yeri was a guest on Jo Hyunah’s YouTube show. She talked about starring in Azure Spring, which started airing May 11 on MBN PLUS. Yeri plays a haenyeo, a traditional female diver, wearing a tight diving suit.
Yeri admitted she was worried about how she’d look on screen at first.
“At first, I went into it with a big decision. Since it was a haenyeo role, you can’t help but worry about things appearance-wise. The first time I wore the haenyeo suit and looked at the monitor…? I was like, ‘I look like a fat steamed bun!’ And that face ended up in the teaser!”

She joked fans would see her “steamed bun” look in the teaser, but reassured that her appearance improved once she got used to the tight outfit.
“Since the wetsuit is so tight, I just ended up tucking everything inside.”
