K-Drama Actress Receiving $30,000 Monthly Allowance Discloses Marriage Terms With Ultra-Wealthy Ex-Husband
Lim Jiyeon is facing controversy after revealing the harsh truth behind her lavish marriage to a wealthy Japanese businessman 16 years her senior.
The actress and former Miss Korea shocked fans by opening up about her marriage’s dark side. While she received a hefty monthly allowance of about ₩50 million KRW (~$30,000–35,000 USD), and extravagant gifts like a luxury imported car and a building worth around ₩6 billion KRW (~$3.91 million USD), the price was her freedom.
Lim Jiyeon shared that she had to quit all broadcasting and entertainment activities. She was forced to stay home and support her husband fully. Leaving the house meant being accompanied by a driver or secretary at all times. The lavish lifestyle came with strict rules she had to follow.
Over time, Lim Jiyeon described her situation as feeling like:
“a prison without bars.”
The actress struggled with losing her independence and freedom. The emotional toll grew too heavy. Eventually, she ended the marriage after five years.
She has since returned to acting and now runs a restaurant in Korea.
