The actor and ASTRO member was baptized last month while serving as a corporal in the army band. The ceremony happened on base as part of religious activities.

This is the first time Cha Eunwoo officially revealed a religious affiliation.

The timing comes after his tax evasion controversy earlier this year. Many think he turned to faith for emotional comfort.

The tax issue blew up in January. Cha Eunwoo was accused of massive tax evasion linked to a one-person agency run by his mother. The National Tax Service ruled the company was a shell with no real work and slapped him with a huge income tax surcharge.

Cha Eunwoo paid about ₩13.0 billion KRW (roughly $8.40 million USD) in back taxes by April, ending the case.

Since then, he’s stayed low and focused on his military duties. Military authorities confirmed that complaints about his assignments were unfounded and his duties were proper.

Cha Eunwoo enlisted last July. He’s slated to be discharged in January 2027.

“Certain complaints about inappropriate assignments were actually proper duty assignments,” military authorities said.

“He completed all payments of about ₩13.0 billion KRW (about $8.40 million USD) in April, concluding the tax process.”

Cha Eunwoo’s baptism signals a new personal chapter amid ongoing public scrutiny.

No official statement yet from Cha Eunwoo or his agency about the baptism.
