The controversy began when the video clips went viral online. Soon after, the company issued a statement mentioning both The8 and fellow member Jun, saying they would take action against “violations of our artists’ portrait rights and reputation rights.”

Recently, false rumors and related discussions about our artists Wen Junhui (Jun) and Xu Minghao (The8) have appeared on online platforms. Unauthorized photos and videos of them have also been circulated, accompanied by malicious speculation and interpretations taken out of context. These have seriously misled the public. The content has continued to spread online and is entirely false information and malicious defamation arising from fan conflicts. It has severely affected the reputations of our two artists and disrupted their normal work and daily lives.

Fans quickly reacted to the statement’s wording, criticizing the agency for including Jun despite the controversy centering on The8. Many pointed out that Jun has been dealing with privacy invasions for over a year, affecting both him and his family, yet no official statements were made about those issues until now.

As the situation unfolded, fans expressed frustration that Jun’s privacy concerns were only addressed in a broad statement tied to The8’s incident, rather than with dedicated attention.

Even his own company defaming him in their legal notice, since in his rumour they have no actual photos or videos circulated. So, it’s a funny choice of words isn’t it. Is it just a wrong choice of words (but that means the staff is unprofessional) or is it just mistranslation,…

I re-read XCSS’s notice again. It starts with ‘false rumors and related discussions about our artists Jun and The8. Almost 95% of the notice covers unauthorized photos and videos and sharing of these contents. I don’t think Jun had any of these issues though. @pledis_17 Explain!

Fans say the company’s slow response to Jun’s privacy issues and the vague statement linking him to The8’s controversy have left them disappointed. The8’s situation remains under scrutiny as the agency promises to take action against defamation and false rumors.
