AION2 Sparks Backlash for Sexualized Characters Resembling Popular Idols

NCSOFT is facing backlash over its new MMORPG AION2’s character presets that look suspiciously like K-Pop idols.

The controversy started when fans noticed that preset characters closely resemble NMIXX’s Sullyoon and Stray KidsFelix.

Others quickly pointed out characters looking like aespa’s Karina and NewJeansHaerin. The details go beyond just the faces—moles and freckles match the idols too.

Many are disturbed by the sexualized nature of these presets, especially considering these real people were seemingly used as templates without permission.

Fans are demanding action from the idols’ agencies.

The company responded saying:

“Although it was not intentional, we are aware of the feedback regarding specific presets and will take appropriate measures.”

Many aren’t buying the excuse.

“Hopefully it will be removed but why lie? Not intentional? Sullyoon’s mole placement? Felix’s freckles? Huhh???” — Aqua

Netizens call the character creation “really disturbing” and “clearly modeled after real people” with “sexual undertones” that are inappropriate.
