Ex-Actor Shares Experience of Living in a Wheelchair for Six Years

Oh Seung Hwan opened up about life in a wheelchair after a serious injury.

The former basketball player and actor posted a video titled “Why I’m In A Wheelchair” on the YouTube channel “Weracle” on the 9th.

Oh Seung Hwan said he used to work as an actor and model but now he’s active as a live creator on TikTok while using a wheelchair.

He revealed he’s been in a wheelchair for about six years after an accident one winter near his apartment complex.

“It was winter, and on my way home after work, I fell near the flower bed inside the apartment complex. Because at that time there were a lot of icy roads. I fell backward onto my neck. After getting injured, my life took a very different direction,” said Oh Seung Hwan.

The injury was to his fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae.

He explained he avoided showing himself in a wheelchair on videos earlier because he didn’t want people to think he was exploiting his pain for views.

“I injured my fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae. I usually didn’t upload videos showing me in a wheelchair because I was worried people might think I was exploiting my pain for broadcasting. I avoided showing that and conducted my broadcasts that way.”

Before the accident, Oh Seung Hwan played basketball for about seven years.

“I played basketball for about seven years. After I quit sports, I remember working really hard to prepare for acting, but after my injury, I felt everything fell apart. It was hard. For about six months to a year after getting hurt, I felt isolated from the world, not saying anything and just wondering to myself, ‘Can I live like this?’”

He admitted he didn’t immediately put effort into rehab.

“My mom and dad gave me a lot of courage. They said if I’m going to keep living, I should not give up and just keep going as far as I can. From then on, I didn’t sleep and worked hard on my rehab nonstop.”
