From (G)I-DLE to I-DLE: Group Redefines Identity with “We Are” and All-Member Participation
i-dle, the group formerly known as (G)I-DLE, is set to release their 8th mini album titled “We are” today, May 19, at 6 PM KST. This comeback marks their first in 10 months, following “I SWAY,” released in July 2023. All five members have renewed their contracts with CUBE Entertainment, making this release significant as they celebrate their 7th debut anniversary in 2024 under their new name.
On May 2, to mark their anniversary, the group officially dropped the “G” from their name, reflecting a shift towards an identity that transcends gender labels and emphasizes boundary-defying music and concepts. The transition included the release of memorable videos, showcasing a farewell to the letter “G” and introducing their unique artistic identity through a special album, “We are i-dle,” which reimagines their past hits.
The new album features six tracks, including the title track “Good Thing,” the pre-release single “Girlfriend,” and B-sides such as “Love Tease,” “Chain,” “Unstoppable,” and “If You Want.” Notably, all members contributed to the songwriting and production. Soyeon, recognized for her producing skills, wrote “Good Thing” and “Girlfriend.” The former combines retro elements with 8-bit sound effects, delivering the group’s signature bold energy, while the latter offers emotional support to a friend in need.
The “Good Thing” Challenge, using a shortened version of the song, has already attracted influencer involvement and hints at viral potential with its catchy refrain, including the playful line, “Holy moly shhh.”
Following the album’s drop, i-dle will engage with fans through a COMEBACK LIVE event at 9 PM via Naver NOW’s Chzzzik and the group’s official YouTube channel.
