ITZY Fan’s Controversial Confession Sparks Criticism, But Not Directed at Them

ITZY is facing confusion online after a viral tweet about Seoul Station sparked a translation mishap.
The controversy began when an ITZY fan on X, @ryujiniious, shared a clip of the group’s new video ads at Seoul Station promoting their album Motto. The ads feature photos of the members alongside their names.
The fan captioned the post in Korean:
“있지 서울역에서 자만추했어요 ”
However, Grok’s auto-translation wildly mistranslated the caption, causing a stir. Instead of the intended meaning, the translation implied something inappropriate, leading to a flood of reactions calling out the AI for its dirty-minded error.
Fans quickly reacted online, mocking the faulty translation and comparing it unfavorably to Google Translate’s more accurate version. One user wrote:
“the auto translate feature has to go” — @qweenbeeval
Another pointed out the absurdity of the mistranslation:
“vi: ‘tự sướng’
en: ‘jerked off’
GROK WHO THE FUCK TAUGHT YOU THAT
” — @phc1_sn
As the situation unfolded, the original poster clarified the true meaning of their tweet. They explained that “자만추” means a “chance encounter,” not the inappropriate phrase Grok suggested.
“Nooooo that means ‘I had a chance encounter with ITZY at Seoul Station ’” — @ryujiniious
Meanwhile, Google Translate’s version came much closer to the mark, avoiding the controversy.
This incident highlights the risks of relying on AI auto-translation for K-pop content, especially when fans are eager to share their experiences with groups like ITZY.
