JTBC’s Idol-Led K-Drama Faces Backlash Over Controversial Scene, Sparks Official Reaction

Park Jin Young of GOT7 and Kim Min Ju of IZONE’s JTBC drama Still Shining* is facing controversy.

The show drew complaints over a scene in Episode 8 showing drunk or hangover driving. A viewer filed a civil complaint with the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC).

The problem? The scene shows Bae Sung Chan (played by Shin Jae Ha) drinking with Mo Eun Ah (Kim Min Ju). He says,

“I can’t drive anyway,”
“I’ll leave quietly at dawn once I sober up.”

Despite this, after seeing Yeon Tae Seo (Park Jin Young), Bae Sung Chan suddenly gets behind the wheel and drives off. This raised concerns because the scene didn’t clearly warn against drunk driving. Instead, critics say it only added dramatic tension.

The KCSC said they will review the complaint and decide if it needs formal action.

As backlash grew, Still Shining’s production team responded:

“We humbly accept the concerns raised and will take extra care to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future.”

Still Shining premiered March 6 but has struggled with ratings, dropping from 2.1% to as low as 0.8%.
