Korean Media Portrays ENHYPEN Fans Negatively After Heeseung Leaves

ENHYPEN is facing controversy after Heeseung’s sudden departure.
The agency, Belift Lab, confirmed on March 10 that Heeseung will leave the group. The decision came after “in-depth conversations” and was made to respect Heeseung’s desire to pursue his own musical direction.
Heeseung posted a handwritten message on Weverse, saying the choice followed long thought and hoping to return as a better version of himself.
The controversy began as some ENGENE fans questioned the departure. They criticized the agency online and organized protests, including a truck protest planned outside HYBE headquarters.
Soon after, Korean media outlet Kyunghyang Sports published an article calling fan actions excessive. The article titled:
“Heeseung Wants A Fresh Start… But Fans Throwing A Tantrum Are Blocking His Path.”
The report argued that demanding Heeseung stay in the group infringes on his autonomy. It pointed out that the agency, Heeseung, and remaining members all support his decision.
Industry insiders described the situation as a natural career progression for idols wanting solo paths.
“There’s really no tantrum quite like this one.
As ENHYPEN member Heeseung officially announced his departure from the group and transition to a solo career in pursuit of his own musical vision, some members of the fandom have begun exercising excessive influence. Even though the decision was a voluntary one made with mutual respect between the artist and the remaining members, critics argue that fans demanding he continue group activities at all costs is an unreasonable ‘tantrum’ that infringes on the artist’s autonomy.”

The article highlighted ongoing fan demands to reverse the decision. It shared the group’s official statement:
“Seeing fans worried and hurting is the most painful thing for us. We respect and support Heeseung’s decision and his new beginning.”
Remaining ENHYPEN members
“However, some ENHYPEN fans continue to demand Heeseung’s return to the group while spreading claims close to conspiracy theories. The remaining six ENHYPEN members also addressed the situation through the group’s official social media that day… Yet some fans are still pushing the narrative that it was a ‘forced removal by the company.’ These fans have announced the truck protest while strongly demanding that Heeseung’s departure be reversed and that he continue group activities alongside his solo career.”

Industry insiders warned treating unverified theories as facts and staging protests is an overreach. They stressed that when an adult artist decides their path, fan collective actions should not try to reverse it.
The article triggered strong debate online over fan behavior and Heeseung’s future.
