Leading Actor Reveals G-Dragon’s Trivial Motive For Blocking His BIGBANG Membership

The controversy began in episode 94 of Daesung’s YouTube show ZIP DAESUNG, where Lee Soo Hyuk shared a hilarious pre-debut story about BIGBANG’s G-Dragon.

Back when BIGBANG was just G-Dragon and Taeyang trying to recruit members, G-Dragon called Lee asking if he knew any good singers or dancers nearby. Lee joked that he wanted to join — but G-Dragon turned him down with a brutal reason.

“Back in high school, [G-Dragon] called me. ‘In your neighbourhood, are there any kids who are good at dancing and singing?’ He was trying to recruit members for BIGBANG at the time. When he was a trainee, at first it was just him and Taeyang.”

“But he called me, when he was looking for members. I never imagined it would become this. Ah, back then I even joked, ‘Me!’ That’s what I said.”

Lee says G-Dragon told him he couldn’t join because he was too tall — Lee stands 6’1″. G-Dragon laughed it off and said Lee would be a better fit for TVXQ.

“And do you know what he said?” Lee added. “He said I couldn’t because I was too tall.”

“That sounds right. That’s probably it,” G-Dragon replied. He playfully added, “You’d be a better fit for TVXQ.”
