Mexico President’s Call for Additional BTS Concerts Sparks Widespread Response

BTS is in the middle of a concert ticket frenzy – and now Mexico’s President is stepping in.
President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed she sent a letter to South Korea’s President asking for more BTS concert dates in Mexico.
She said the current shows don’t meet demand.
“Many young people were unable to secure tickets for BTS’s upcoming concert in May. Over 150,000 tickets were sold, but over a million people were trying to get seats.”
— President Claudia Sheinbaum
There are only three confirmed BTS concerts in Mexico City on May 7, 9, and 10 at the GNP Seguros Stadium, which can hold 60,000 fans. BIG K-Pop acts like BLACKPINK and TWICE have performed there before.
President Sheinbaum wants more shows or even ways to screen the concerts for Mexican fans.
“With only three confirmed performances in Mexico City, I have made a polite, diplomatic request to the President of South Korea to allow BTS to visit more frequently.
I hope we receive a positive response from Korea or that they allow us to screen the concerts. We need to find ways to make this popular group more accessible to young people in Mexico.”
— President Claudia Sheinbaum
She called the Mexico concert “historic” and said authorities will monitor ticket sales for fairness. The three shows sold out in just 37 minutes.
But fans and netizens are split on the President’s request. Some think it’s just friendly talk; others find it excessive or question why she’s contacting South Korea’s President instead of BTS’s company HYBE.
Comments from online include:
- “They are really going overboard…”
- “It’s just a gesture… no need to take it seriously.”
- “But why is she sending it to Korea’s president and not the CEO? I’m honestly curious.”
- “I want to go to BTS’s concert, too.”
BTS’s popularity in Mexico is undeniable, and this latest move shows local leaders want to capitalize on that hype.
