NCT’s Doyoung Finds Out He Has Unexpected Allergies to Apples and Peaches on ‘I Live Alone’
Doyoung of NCT recently opened up about a scary allergic reaction that led him to the emergency room and revealed unexpected allergy test results during the June 6 episode of MBC’s I Live Alone.
The incident started when Doyoung took cold medicine prescribed to him but then had a severe allergic reaction. To find out what really happened, he visited a hospital for an allergy screening. The doctor explained the situation by pointing to his blood test results from that day.
"You test results have arrived. The test indicates that your white blood cell count was very high that day. That means that your body could have responded to the medicine as if it were an infection. It may have been a reaction caused by stress, or a bodily response similar to when you are exposed to a bacterial infection." Doctor
This eerie immune response wasn’t actually an allergy to the cold medicine itself. Tests confirmed that Doyoung wasn’t allergic to common cold medicine ingredients like penicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin, cefaclor, or gelatin bovine. The doctor also clarified that when the immune system is weak, the body might react to things it usually wouldn’t, mimicking allergy symptoms.
"When your immune system is weakened, you may experience a reaction similar to allergies to things that you normally would not have trouble with." Doctor
The allergy testing went beyond just medicine. Doyoung found out he has a couple of food and environmental allergies. His results showed a Class 2 allergy to apples and a stronger Class 4 allergy to cats, birch trees, and peaches. The doctor advised that he should avoid anything rated Class 3 or higher, which took Doyoung by surprise.
"I don’t think I’ve ever experienced any sort of discomfort after eating peaches. So I’ve just been eating them." Doyoung
"But I do remember my throat feeling tingly after eating apples." Doyoung
The last note was on Doyoung’s elevated Immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, which suggest he has a body type that’s more prone to allergic reactions, asthma-like symptoms, eczema, and other skin irritations.
Doyoung’s experience highlights how complicated allergies can be—sometimes what looks like an allergy might actually be your immune system reacting to stress or weakness. Fans saw a more personal side of him navigating health challenges while still managing his busy idol life.
