Netflix’s “Single’s Inferno 5” Subtitles Annoy Viewers and Undermine Cast Members

Viewers of Single’s Inferno Season 5 are calling out Netflix for allegedly misleading subtitles that change viewers’ opinions about cast members.

The controversy began when a Reddit user pointed out a big mismatch in the subtitles for Lim Su Been. The Netflix subtitles made it seem like he was annoyed at Park Hee Sun sitting next to him, saying:

“I wanted to sit with Mina Sue, but Hee Sun wouldn’t leave me alone.”

But TikTok clips revealed Lim Su Been never said that. Fans are now questioning how many moments Netflix has mistranslated to shape the story differently.

The subtitled lines caused viewers to see Lim Su Been in a negative light. Others in the fandom chimed in about how badly wrong subtitles can ruin a person’s image on the show.

“While I was watching I found it so weird that Su Been said that… Only to find out on tiktok that he didn’t actually say that So now that is cleared im just wondering what scenes that us Netflix watchers see differently because of the mistranslation??!?”

Aside from Lim Su Been, differences between the regular English subtitles and English Closed Captions (CC) have also been spotted with other cast members. During Jo I Geon’s Paradise date with Kim Go Eun in episode 10, his playful jab at men was translated differently:

Regular English subtitles:

English CC subtitles:

This split experience is causing confusion and frustration among fans. Many question how many opinions have been formed or changed due to poor or inconsistent translations on a popular dating show.
