Netizens Respond to P Nation’s New Four-Member Girl Group Baby DONT Cry Produced by (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon

P Nation is stepping into the girl group scene with its very first new act, Baby DONT Cry. The four-member group has kicked off their promotions by dropping their first concept teaser alongside official social media channels. What’s especially exciting is that the project’s main producer is none other than i-dle’s Soyeon, adding a big-name touch to their debut.

From the silent teaser, Baby DONT Cry’s vibe comes off as a mix of girly charm and edgy retro coolness. Their branding features a vintage-style logo with four cherries, symbolizing the four members. Across their social media accounts, they posted a mysterious tagline: "You will regret it if you let go of your chance right now," which fans believe is connected to the title of their pre-release song. The pre-release track is scheduled to drop on June 16 at 0 AM KST, with their official full debut coming shortly after on June 23 at 6 PM KST.

However, not everyone is totally on board with the group’s chosen name. Many netizens are raising eyebrows over the name Baby DONT Cry and the abbreviation BDC. This is because BDC was already the name of a boy group that used to be under Brand New Music before disbanding. Fans of the former BDC aren’t thrilled about the reuse of the acronym, feeling it disregards the legacy and community of the earlier group, even if they weren’t hugely well-known.

To add to the confusion, Baby DONT Cry shares their name with an upcoming song by girl group cosmosy, also slated for release in July. Plus, the phrase "Baby Don’t Cry" is famously associated with EXO’s hit track, which only fuels debate about whether the new group’s name might cause unnecessary mix-ups.

The reactions online have been pretty mixed and quite vocal. Some fans are puzzled by how to shorten the group name in Korean, while others feel that the name doesn’t quite fit the vibe they expect from P Nation. Here’s a selection of what people have said:

"Is the name Bedonkeu*?"
"Baby Don’t Cry… is that the full name?!"
"I was a BDC fan, so seeing the tag on this made me sad."
"So how are we supposed to shorten the group name—Bedonkeu…? BDC?"
"If the group name is really Bedonkeu, that’s seriously terrible; all I can think about is other groups now."
"Even if BDC disbanded, that name already exists—why reuse that as an abbreviation?"
"BDC might have disbanded, but it’s still a senior group name. They shouldn’t have used the same one."
"TMI: ‘BDC’ was actually a name Rhymer originally considered for a boy group, based on ‘Boys Don’t Cry,’ but he just changed the meaning."
"This isn’t the P Nation vibe I was expecting."
"The vibe is nice, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the song to know for sure."
"Maybe because Jeon Soyeon worked on it, it kind of gives off a ‘Nxde’ feeling."
"Cherry Maru?"
"Looks like a Cherry Maru character."
"If the name were Queen Never Cry, I could at least chalk it up to a meme, but Baby Don’t Cry is just lame."
"The group name overlaps with Cosmosy’s upcoming song title."
"They haven’t even debuted yet and things are already overlapping everywhere."
"I thought the same thing—why are they reusing BDC’s name like that? That’s too much."
"Wait, that’s the group name, not a song title??"
"I wasn’t curious… but now I kind of am ㅋㅋ"
"I want to know what they look like—have the members been revealed?"
"That’s unique."
"What about TNX though?"
"Looking forward to the concept."
"Oh, finally!"
