People Power Party Spokesperson Sends Message to Karina Following Outfit Controversy

Political Controversy Surrounds aespa’s Karina as Support from People Power Party Spokesman Emerges

On May 27th, KST, a notable moment unfolded when Karina, a member of the popular K-pop group aespa, found herself in the crossfire of political speculation. This occurred after Baek Ji Won, the spokesperson for the People Power Party’s central election committee, extended his support for her on social media.

In a post on Instagram, Baek shared a screenshot from aespa’s energetic music video for their hit single, "Supernova." Accompanying the image, he wrote the phrase, “SHOUT OUT TO,” a term borrowed from hip-hop that highlights support or admiration for someone.

Additionally, he included the cover image from aespa’s full album, ‘Armageddon’, which features the track "Supernova," thereby reinforcing his commendation. This display of support comes amidst some unease regarding Karina’s recent social media activity, which has ignited considerable debate.

The controversy began when Karina posted casual photos from her trip to Japan, where her outfit—a striking combination of black and red—sparked claims from netizens suggesting that the visible number “2” hinted at a political endorsement ahead of the nation’s 21st presidential election scheduled for June 3rd. Although neither Karina nor her agency, SM Entertainment, have addressed these allegations, the chatter online has been intense, with opinions sharply divided on whether her attire carried any political connotations.

On the following day, May 28th KST, Lee Soo Jung, who leads the People Power Party’s Suwon Jeong District Committee, also voiced her allegiance to Karina via Facebook. In her post, she urged, >“The secondary attacks on the victim must be harsh, but let’s get through it,” alongside a supportive photo of the idol. To underscore her message, she added a hashtag reading, “If you touch Karina, you’re done,” clearly signaling her protective stance.
