SEVENTEEN Leads Oricon Mid-Year Album Rankings for International Acts with ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY’

SEVENTEEN continues to dominate in Japan, breaking new ground for international artists on Oricon’s 2025 mid-year album charts. Their latest album, ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY’, made a huge splash by landing at No. 2 on the Combined Album Chart and No. 3 on the Album Sales Chart. This is the best ranking any non-Japanese artist has scored during this time frame, which covers sales from December 9, 2024, to June 8, 2025, according to Oricon’s Mid-Year Rankings released on June 25.

The success of ‘HAPPY BURSTDAY’ didn’t happen overnight—it debuted at No. 1 on the Daily Album Chart right when it dropped in May, then kept the momentum going by topping both the Weekly Album Sales Chart and the Weekly Combined Chart. Inside just five days, shipments in Japan blew past the 500,000 mark, earning the album a Double Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). That kind of achievement shows just how strong SEVENTEEN’s presence is in the Japanese market.

Besides their album milestones, SEVENTEEN’s fourth Japanese single, ‘Shohikigen (消費期限 / Expiration Date)’, released last November 27, 2024, is still riding high. It made the mid-year Singles Chart and took the No. 1 spot on Billboard Japan’s Top Single Sales category during the same period, from November 25, 2024, to May 25, 2025.

The group isn’t just focusing on music; they’re also stepping into acting with the Korea-Japan joint drama ‘Hatsukoi DOGS (初恋DOGs)’, which will premiere on Japan’s TBS network on July 1. Adding to their multi-talented image, SEVENTEEN performs the theme song, ‘Where Love Passed (愛が通り過ぎた跡)’, a move that ties their music and acting work together. The emotional track about lingering love was written and composed by member Woozi.

This continued success in music charts, certifications, and now acting roles highlights just how much SEVENTEEN has grown internationally, especially in Japan, where they’re turning into household names. Their connection with fans is clearly strong, and the numbers back it up.
