SM Entertainment Initiates Legal Proceedings Against Harmful Posts Targeting Aespa
On June 5, SM Entertainment took a strong stand against the ongoing online abuse targeting its girl group aespa. The agency revealed that a worrying amount of defamatory content—including deepfake images, manipulated videos, and sexually harassing remarks—had been circulating across various online platforms. As a result, SM has been actively collecting evidence and moving forward with legal action.
By combining tips from vigilant fans with their own monitoring efforts, SM Entertainment confirmed that several malicious posts and comments aimed at aespa have been documented. These include serious accusations such as defamation, insults, and the creation and distribution of falsified visual content. Thanks to this evidence, criminal complaints have already been filed against multiple offenders.
The agency noted that some individuals responsible for these harmful posts have been identified, with investigations underway. In fact, a few cases have already reached final verdicts, resulting in penalties like three-year prison sentences suspended for five years, alongside fines. This shows the agency’s determination to hold those involved accountable.
SM Entertainment emphasized its firm commitment to protecting aespa and warned that legal action is still ongoing against anyone sharing or posting false claims, slander, sexual harassment, or other offensive material related to the group. The content in question has been found on both personal social media accounts and various online communities.
The company ended its statement by urging the public to steer clear of any participation—whether direct or indirect—in these illegal activities.
