SUGA Issues Apology to Fans After Completing Mandatory Service

SUGA of BTS has officially completed his mandatory military service and greeted fans with a heartfelt message on Weverse on June 21 KST. After nearly two years away, the rapper opened up about the time he spent reflecting on himself and expressed deep gratitude to ARMY for their patience.

"Hello everyone, it’s SUGA."
"It’s been about 2 years. How have you been?"
"As of today, I have been officially discharged from my mandatory service, and so I am able to greet you again after so long."

He shared that preparing this message took some thought because of the long wait and his own anticipation for this day to arrive.

"I thought for a long time about how I should greet you, since it’s been so long and also because I’d been waiting for this day."
"First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank all the fans who waited for me. I missed you very much."

During his service, SUGA said he spent time looking inward, a break from the fast-paced world he’s used to.

"I think I spent these past 2 years reflecting about myself as a person."
"It also occurred to me that I needed to take a step back from this line of work that I am so used to being in and spend some time outside of that space."
"Because I ran so hard while only looking ahead, I did not have a moment to stop and look back on myself. Through this time that was given to me, I was able to finally look back."

In his note, he also apologized for causing concern and disappointment last year due to his actions.

"ARMYs, thank you again and again for waiting."
"And I’m sorry for disappointing you and making you worry over what happened last year."
"More than anything, what upset me most was that I hurt my fans."
"I was also sorry toward my members, who were undoubtedly burdened in their respective positions because of what I had done."

Looking ahead, SUGA promised to work hard to repay the love and support he’s received.

"From now on, I will do my best to repay you for the love that you’ve given me."
"I love you. Everyone, you’ll hear more from me soon."

Last year in August 2023, the artist was fined 15 million KRW (around $11,000 USD) after being found operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated near his home. Despite that incident, fans now have the chance to welcome SUGA back as he returns from military service and prepares for what’s next.
