The Unexpected Bond That Developed Between BTS’s RM And Jeon Somi
Jeon Somi revealed the surprising origin of her friendship with BTS’s RM amid her latest comeback promotions.
Somi’s comeback with “Fast Forward” included dance challenges and her variety show Yes Or Hot. She threw a star-studded launch party for her EP Game Plan, attended by big names like TWICE’s Nayeon, Jihyo, Chaeyoung, SEVENTEEN’s Woozi, The8, Mingyu, BIGBANG’s Taeyang and G-Dragon, actor Joo Woo Jae, and more.
The guest list also included BTS’s RM, showing the strength of Somi’s celebrity connections across multiple K-pop generations. At a fansign event, Somi was asked how she became friends with RM. She disclosed it was a recent friendship that started shortly before her album release.
Somi explained they first met at BIGBANG’s G-Dragon’s PEACEMINUSONE x NIKE collaboration dinner held in April 2023. Attendees included RM, Jimin, LE SSERAFIM’s Kazuha and Yunjin, former Apink’s Son Naeun, and actor/model Lee Soo Hyuk.
The duo found common ground through numerous mutual industry friends, considering RM debuted in 2013, and Somi debuted in I.O.I in 2016 after SIXTEEN in 2015. Somi added their conversations often happen in English.
