Trisha Paytas Shades BTS as Her Debut K-Pop Song Tops the Charts

Trisha Paytas is facing backlash after her surprise K-Pop debut sparked controversy online.

The American streamer and influencer officially debuted as a K-Pop artist on May 18 with the release of her single “S사랑해 Saranghae (I Love You).” The music video quickly went viral, drawing attention from netizens and climbing the U.S. iTunes “Top K-Pop” chart, where it reached #2 behind “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Paytas, who started her career in Los Angeles before launching a YouTube channel in 2007, shared her excitement on Instagram as the song ranked #45 and later climbed higher. She also promised fans more Korean music to come.

Fans quickly noticed that her song outranked major K-Pop acts, including BTS, who appeared twice on the chart. However, the situation took a turn when a screenshot surfaced showing Paytas liking a comment on X (formerly Twitter) that told BTS to “end them.” This action sparked criticism and accusations of shade towards the group.

The controversy began when fans pointed out Paytas’s past issues, including accusations of racism towards Asians and Zionism. Many expressed disappointment that some K-Pop fans seemed to support her despite these concerns, focusing mainly on her rivalry with BTS.
