TWICE’s Jeongyeon Reveals Emotional Reason Behind Her Hiatus

TWICE’s Jeongyeon is facing backlash after revealing her battle with a serious illness that many fans didn’t know about.
The controversy began when Jeongyeon opened up on tvN’s variety show You Quiz On The Block about her health struggles. She credited her older sister, actress Seungyeon, for being her rock during this difficult time.
Jeongyeon shared that in 2020, when she had to pause her activities due to health issues, Seungyeon noticed something was wrong and urged her to get checked at a hospital. Thanks to her sister’s support, Jeongyeon was diagnosed with Cushing’s Syndrome, a condition caused by excessive cortisol in the body. Symptoms include weight gain, skin changes, fatigue, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
“Seungyeon unnie was the one who helped Jeongyeon to get treated
‘I was going through a bit of a mental struggle, you held me and said “something is off with your body, you need to go to the hospital”
thanks to you, I was able to get treated well & become healthy again”

Jeongyeon received proper treatment and regained her health, giving full credit to her sister for her support.
Fans quickly reacted to the news, with many upset that JYP Entertainment never disclosed Jeongyeon’s diagnosis. Some criticized the agency for not protecting her from harsh body-shaming comments during her illness.
“This is the first time Jeongyeon tell us her illness other than her cervical herniated disc…probably that makes her take another hiatus
She’s suffering from ‘Cushing’s Syndrome’.
JYPE never told this and bcus of this. people call her out, body shaming her and so on…JYPE”

Others pushed back against the idea that the company was at fault for not sharing private medical details.
“the framing of ‘the company never told us about this so they are at fault for not protecting her from abusive body shaming comments’ is not just invasive and entitled but also victim blaming. the symptom of the issue is kpop and its fans are extremely fatphobic”

“while i’m glad that jeongyeon’s cushing syndrome is more known now (she mentioned it somewhere before), i don’t think that neither jeongyeon not jype is obligated to share personal medical conditions with us. if jeongyeon wants to share it, it will be known. if not, it won’t.…”

Still, many fans expressed heartbreak over Jeongyeon’s silent suffering under intense public scrutiny.
“The amount of pain and suffering Jeongyeon went through is literally beyond anyone’s imagination. Just imagine having to deal with all of that under the spotlight, with millions of eyes watching and judging your every move.”

“jeongyeon got dragged left and right for the way she looked while fighting that nasty illness behind closed doors. shame on JYPE for not doing anything about the tidal waves of hate she recieved.”

“Knowing that Jeongyeon was fighting Cushing’s Syndrome in silence while being mindlessly attacked breaks my heart. JYPE failed her, but her sister’s love saved her. She went through so much for us. Always by your side, Jeongyeon ”

“i feel so sick reading this like she was performing while feeling like this and with people bashing her on the internet on top of that??? i can’t do this anymore”

As the situation unfolded, fans continue to rally around Jeongyeon, praising her strength and her sister’s unwavering support during her toughest battles.
