Yuqi Issues Apology for Concert Ticket Comment During (G)I-DLE’s Press Event
(G)I-DLE member Yuqi has apologized for comments made during a recent YouTube appearance that sparked backlash among fans.
At a press conference on May 19 celebrating the release of the group’s eighth mini-album “We are,” Yuqi addressed criticism regarding her remarks about buying concert tickets with personal funds. She said, “I’m sorry. When I go on variety shows, I tend to raise the energy to be funny. Please don’t misunderstand.”
The controversy arose from a segment where Yuqi reacted to a question about fellow member Minnie’s spending of 10 million won to invite acquaintances to their concert. Yuqi expressed confusion, saying, “What I don’t understand is, it’s our concert but we have to buy tickets with our own money.”
Her comments led to a wave of criticism, with fans questioning the implications of her statements regarding ticket access. In her clarification, Yuqi emphasized, “It’s not that I don’t care about the fans… I was just joking about our company being stingy. Honestly, I can confidently say I always take good care of our fans.”
She acknowledged her mistake, stating, “This made me realize I need to be more careful with my words. If any fans were hurt, I sincerely apologize.”
Leader Soyeon supported Yuqi, remarking, “Yuqi is someone who really cares about the fans. I think she was just trying to be funny because it was a variety show.”
The mini-album “We are” was released on May 19, featuring six tracks including the title song “Good Thing,” which showcases the group’s signature style. Notably, the album reflects a new thematic direction centered on unity, with all members participating in its creation.
