SHINee’s Minho Discusses SM Entertainment’s Influence on His Actions
SHINee’s Minho opened up about his tough debut days under a “mysterious” concept that forced him to stay quiet.
On March 19, Minho appeared on BIGBANG’s Daesung’s web show ZIP DAESUNG. Daesung asked Minho if he was shy at debut.
Minho paused, then said:
“The company told me not to talk.”
He explained:
“At the time, there was a mysterious concept, and they told me to say as little as possible.”
Minho laughed and added,
“But I also had things I wanted to say.”
He recalled a radio interview that almost turned into a disaster because he couldn’t speak freely:
“I wanted to speak, but since the company told me not to, I ended up looking foolish. I was in high school then, and my desire to do what I was told properly conflicted with wanting to speak. Honestly, the mysterious concept was tough.”
Daesung agreed, recalling strict rules for BIGBANG days:
“They told us not to wander outside the waiting room either. When using the shared waiting room, they just told us to stay in the car.”
Minho reflected on the strategy:
“In the end, I think that strategy worked.”
He laughed at how young he was:
“I was so curious about the hyungs. At a young age, I listened to their music wondering ‘What kind of people are they?’ but we only had three seconds to see them.”
