Seasoned Actor Discusses On-Screen Kiss With Actress Three Decades Younger

Park Geun Hyung is opening up about the on-screen kiss controversy with a much younger actress early in his career.
The veteran actor spilled the details on the January 14 broadcast of Radio Star. He talked about working with juniors and recalled the melodrama Rosy Life. There, he starred as the husband to Kim Hye Soo, who was 30 years his junior.
Park didn’t hold back his feelings about the casting. He said he was uncomfortable with the big age gap.
“I wondered if the production team was out of their minds. Because of the age difference, I couldn’t immerse myself and felt embarrassed.”

He also felt sorry for Kim Hye Soo starting so young in the industry and saw her more like a daughter.

The 1991 MBC drama was bold for its time. Park played a film producer and Kim Hye Soo was a rookie actress who married him on-screen. Their kiss scenes shocked viewers. But behind the scenes, they had to get creative filming those intimate moments.
Park explained how they handled the awkward kissing scenes:
“If there was a kissing scene, we would turn our heads to suggest it indirectly.”
“At other times, I would place a finger on her lips while pretending to kiss her.”
“If it had been a real kiss, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”

Park revealed he still keeps in touch with Kim Hye Soo and values their friendship.
“Whenever I perform in a play, she always comes to watch. I’m very grateful.”
