Hit Series Abruptly Canceled Due to Cast Boycott and Additional Controversies

Baek Sung Hyun is facing controversy as the musical Eyes of Dawn abruptly ended its run early following a boycott by some cast members.
The controversy began when Baek Sung Hyun and fellow lead Park Jung Ah arrived for the March 22, 2026 show but found the performance canceled due to a cast boycott. Insider reports say Baek Sung Hyun, who was highly passionate about the show, was so upset he even skipped meals.
The production company said the early closure was due to “ongoing difficulties beyond expectations,” making March 19 the final show. All tickets are being fully refunded.
We take seriously the difficulties this decision has caused for the actors, staff, and all those involved. We will approach all related matters with sincerity and a sense of responsibility until the very end.

The drama started earlier this month when a March 8 performance was canceled last minute with no prior notice, leaving many confused. That particular show was for firefighters and their families personally invited by Baek Sung Hyun. He apologized publicly while the company promised to resume performances, which at first seemed to resolve things.

However, sources say the boycott and ultimate shutdown stem from conflicts over payment disputes. Some actors refused to perform until the issue was addressed.

Eyes of Dawn is based on the hit 1991 K-drama that once hit 58.4% viewership. The 2019 musical debut was nominated for Best Musical at the Korea Musical Awards.
