Gong Seung Yeon recalled struggling after her 2015 drama Heard It Through The Grapevine. Despite early hopes fueled by initial earnings, she soon faced severe financial difficulties, unable to cover rent, insurance, or pension premiums. This forced her to move back with her parents and push hard for more auditions, even pleading with her agency and writing letters to casting directors.

While Seung Yeon fought to keep her career afloat, Jeongyeon was already enjoying massive success as a TWICE member. This contrast brought mixed feelings for the oldest sister.

I was happy that my sister was doing well. But I also harbored the oldest child’s mindset of ‘I have to do even better.’ My mom also wished that her oldest daughter would do well and help pull up her younger siblings. There were times when I felt like, as an older sister, I was falling short compared to my younger sister.
