Leading Idol-Turned-Actor Announces Plans to Enlist Regardless of Agency Opposition

Park Jihoon is serious about joining the Marine Corps Search and Reconnaissance Unit – even if it means going against his agency’s wishes.
The actor spoke out during a June 2 interview in Seoul, revealing firm plans to enlist next year. He’s 28 now but still has one year left to join the Marines, whose age limit is 29.
He explained why he chose the notoriously tough Marine Corps unit.
“I have the mindset that if I am going once, I might as well go to a tough place. It might sound strange to call it unique. I’m not saying that other army or other units aren’t special, but since it’s a place you have to pass an exam to go into, I think there might be other things I can learn if I go this route.”

No definite date yet, but he’s pushing to finish his service ASAP.
“The timing of my enlistment isn’t set yet, but if it happens, I’d like to get it over with quickly. I am in a situation where I have to go next year. I don’t know which month, but since I can only go to the Marine Corps if I go next year, I have to go.”

He’s also sending a direct message to his agency.
“Even if my agency tells me not to go, I will just go. I will go next year. Please write that in the article. I don’t want to postpone it anymore. I really want to go and fulfill my military duty well. I have to apply for the unit and pass the test, but even if I fail, I want to join the Marines.”
