Mark Lee is facing backlash after a past livestream clip resurfaced amid his recent controversies.
The controversy began when Mark, who left NCT to pursue a solo career, was criticized for wearing a Confederate flag and other actions following the scandal. Fans quickly dug up a 2018 livestream featuring Mark, Ten, Johnny, and Jaehyun, known as the “foreign swaggers.”
In the clip, Mark speaks in an accented English style meant to sound “cool.” Ten questions him, mimicking Mark’s speech and asking if that’s the “cool” way to talk now. Johnny confirms that’s how Mark speaks, and Mark seems to think Ten is teasing him.
This style of speaking, sometimes called a “blaccent,” mimics how some Black people speak. The video has been reposted recently, with some fans saying it shows Ten “knew” about the negative side of Mark’s behavior.
