Lee Yi Kyung Faces New Backlash Amid Personal Life Controversy
Lee Yi Kyung is out of Brave Detectives Season 5 amid ongoing private life rumors.
E Channel confirmed on the 9th that Lee Yi Kyung will not return as an MC. They said,
“With the new season, we have parted ways with MC Kim Sun Young and Lee Yi Kyung, who had shown great performances, at the end of Season 4, and welcomed new MCs.”
Lee Yi Kyung had been a key MC since the show began in April 2022. He stepped down temporarily in October following controversy around his personal life.
At the time, the show said,
“Actor Lee Yi Kyung, who has played a solid role as an MC, will temporarily be absent from Brave Detectives 4 due to personal reasons. Various guests will appear on the show over the next few weeks.”
The production team was cautious about Lee Yi Kyung’s status but decided on his permanent exit before Season 5 launched as suspicions lingered.
The controversy started last October when a person claiming to be German, named A, leaked text messages with obscene language and insults allegedly from Lee Yi Kyung. A later said images and texts were AI manipulated but kept changing their story and raising new claims.
Lee Yi Kyung’s agency replied with plans for legal action:
“We are preparing legal measures for damages caused by the spread of false information and malicious rumors. Considering the severity of the situation, we will calculate all direct and indirect damages caused by the false information and take all necessary measures.”
The actor himself went to the Gangnam Police Station and took legal steps, saying,
“I visited the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul to give a statement as a complainant. I conveyed my position on the rumors and completed the legal process for defamation caused by threats and spreading false information.”
Brave Detectives is known for real crime cases and has won fans for sincerity and awareness. The new season premieres April 27 at 9:50 PM with MCs Ahn Jung Hwan, Kwon Il Yong, and newcomers Kwak Sun Young and Yoon Doojoon.
