K-Drama Star Reveals Drastic Choice About Parenthood Because of Being Single

Lee Soo Kyung faces backlash after revealing she gave up on artificial insemination and adoption due to Korean laws.

The 44-year-old actress recently appeared on TV and opened up about wanting a child as a single woman in her 40s. She seriously considered egg freezing, adoption, and artificial insemination but hit legal walls.

Lee Soo Kyung said that in Korea, egg freezing is not allowed unless you’re married. Artificial insemination and adoption also require a married status or family setup.

“I was interested in egg freezing. I had been thinking about it, but in Korea, it’s not allowed before marriage. You need a husband—only then is artificial insemination possible, and adoption also requires a family,” Lee Soo Kyung said.

She also admitted how serious she was about adoption.

“I thought that if I could give a lot of love, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for a child. But since it’s not legally possible in my situation, I gave up on it.”

Currently, Korea has some local support programs for egg freezing for unmarried women. Still, artificial insemination remains legally restricted, while adoption by single women is allowed but with strict screenings compared to couples.

This controversy again highlights ongoing debates around reproductive rights and family laws in Korea.
