MBC Program Fails With 0% Viewership Despite Star-Studded Cast Featuring BLACKPINK’s Jennie And Go Youn Jung

BLACKPINK’s Jennie and star-packed variety show The Secret Friends Club flopped hard, wrapping up with ratings under 1%.

The final episode aired April 26 and pulled a nationwide household rating of just 0.9%. The show never climbed out of 0% ratings territory. It kicked off in February with a 2% rating but lost steam despite a heavyweight cast including Park Bo Young, Jung Hae In, Cha Tae Hyun, and others.

The Secret Friends Club

The concept had buzz — celebs sending secret gifts “Secret Santa” style. The idea came from Jennie herself, and producer Kim Tae Ho promised a hit. Kim’s reputation from Infinite Challenge drove big expectations.

Viewers stuck around a bit more when Go Youn Jung appeared, keeping ratings in the 1% range, but the show ended on its lowest note yet.

The star cast was stacked with variety veterans like Hwang Kwang Hee, Lee Sun Bin, and Kang Hoon, but audiences said the show failed to build chemistry or keep interest.

Critics say the main problem was the show’s confused format. It mixed “healing” vibes with observational reality and a Secret Santa game but didn’t commit to one. It felt slow and flat compared to current fast-paced variety trends.

“The disappointing run of The Secret Friends Club served as a stark reminder that variety shows cannot be carried solely by the star power of cast members unless the entertainment value is established through the director’s execution.”

The harsh truth? Star power alone couldn’t save this flop. The show’s poor ratings prove big names don’t guarantee a hit.
