Popular Idol-Turned-Actor Discusses Challenges Faced During Career Transition
Lee Jun Young opened up about the harsh criticism he faced after switching from K-Pop to acting.
The controversy started with Lee’s comments on Ha Ji Young’s YouTube channel posted on May 20. He looked back on his journey from debuting with U-KISS in 2014 to trying acting in 2017.
Lee revealed the backlash wasn’t just about doubting his singing career. He said it got personal and painful.
Lee Jun Young:
“It was even harsher than that. I heard things like, ‘Don’t cause trouble for actors who are actually doing well.’ It really hurt.”
Despite U-KISS having hit songs and loyal fans, Lee said they weren’t seen as a “successful group.” He shared how timing affects idol careers and the pressure not to quit.
Lee Jun Young:
“Our group had songs that were loved by many and we had a lot of supporters, but it was difficult to say we were a successful group. People think idols have lots of opportunities, but it depends on the timing. I felt like quitting here would make me a loser.”
