NCT’s Doyoung and actor Kim Young Dae surprise fans with rare military friendship

At the 12th Division Patriotic Music Concert on June 24 in Inje, Gangwon Province, fans got an unexpected treat. NCT’s Doyoung, currently serving as an active-duty soldier, performed alongside various artists including trot singer Seol Hayoon and Phantom Singer contestants.

But the spotlight quickly shifted to Doyoung’s surprising off-stage friendship with actor Kim Young Dae, who is also enlisted in the same division. Both were born in 1996, with Doyoung enlisting in December 2025 and Kim Young Dae in April 2026.

Fans couldn’t believe the two celebrities, coming from very different fields, are now army mates.

“A two-shot that we’d never be able to see unless it’s the military.”

“I only heard that Kim Young Dae was in the 12th division, and I can’t believe I saw these two together.”

Doyoung and Kim Young Dae were seen chatting and bonding during the event, much to fans’ delight.

“It’s so crazy to see Doyoung and Kim Young Dae together…and Kim Young Dae is so sweet. I asked for a selfie, and even though his manager said no, he said ‘Of course’ and took a selfie for me.”
