The video quickly became controversial as some fans pointed to its retro filters, editing style, and overall atmosphere and compared those elements to NewJeans’ Japanese debut single “Supernatural,” released in 2024.

Fans on both sides reacted online. NewJeans fans said the visual similarities were too obvious to ignore. Other fans defended ILLIT, saying the visuals followed common retro-inspired trends rather than copying another group.

The latest debate revived earlier accusations between the two HYBE girl groups.

The original dispute began in 2024 during the public feud between HYBE and Min Hee Jin. Min Hee Jin accused ILLIT of copying NewJeans’ concept, including styling, choreography, and overall image. BELIFT LAB denied the claims and took legal action against her, saying the claims were false.

Since that fight, fans have repeatedly compared the two groups, with both sides accusing the other of unfair treatment.

After “I Got Your Back” arrived, fans renewed the discussion on X. Some accused BELIFT LAB of repeating past controversies. Others questioned whether the similarities amounted to copying.
